Academy of Reading: Focus on Research
This document examines the findings
of key research into the process of reading and summarizes many of the
educational conclusions that have been drawn from them. This document also
offers clear-cut evidence of the Academy of Reading’s effectiveness, in
the form of research study summaries, case studies and site evaluations.
Developing Mathematical Proficiency:
Academy of Math
This research study explains the successful AutoSkill instructional
methodology which includes: the task-analytic approach, proficiency
through practice, and the principles of motivation. It also highlights the
connection between reading and math and describes the components of
effective mathematics instruction which are incorporated into the Academy
of Math. These components are conceptual understanding, computational
fluency and strategic competence.

School, TN
This study shows the improvements in
reading scores of third grade students at Sweetwater Elementary School in
Tennessee

of Math: Leavenworth, Kansas
This study shows that students in the
Leavenworth School District in Kansas, gained an average of 2.1 grade
levels after an average of six hours of training on the Academy of Math
Academy of
Reading: Chambersburg School District, PA
This study examines the gains in reading proficiency by students using the
Academy of Reading in the Chambersburg Area School District in
Pennsylvania, in the 2001-2002 school year. Eighth grade students showed
statistically significant gains of 2.4 grade levels on the Stanford
Diagnostic Reading Test after 11.5 hours of time on task in the program.
Academy of READING: Goodwin Elementary School, SC
During the 2003-2004 school year at W.B. Goodwin Elementary School, 433
students, in grades 1 through 6, participated in an evaluation of the
effectiveness of the Academy of READING intervention program. Results,
based on a comparison of pre- and post-training CPRT scores, showed that
students achieved 1.5 grade levels gains in their reading proficiency
after an average of 4.4 hours of focused training.
